Nottinghamshire pacer, Shaheen Afridi, delivered a sensational first over, claiming four wickets after initially conceding five wides in what could only be described as an electrifying performance in Friday’s T20 Blast clash against Warwickshire.

Shaheen Afridi dismantled Warwickshire's top-order

Nottinghamshire set a 169-run target largely due to Tom Moore's stunning 73 runs off 42 balls. In response, Afridi, quickly turned the game in Nottinghamshire's favour, dismissing Warwickshire captain, Alex Davies, for a duck off the first legal ball as he bowled a toe-crushing yorker that caught him plumb in front of the wicket.

Subsequently, Chris Benjamin was also bowled out for a golden duck while attempting a scoop shot on his very first delivery. Dan Mousley (1) was then dismissed courtesy of a blinder by Olly Stone at covers. Afridi's final wicket came in the form of Ed Barnard, whose stumps were disturbed by a cracking yorker as he too departed for a golden duck.

Warwickshire were in a spot of bother and they now relied on Australian cricketing ace Glenn Maxwell. The explosive batter offered a glimmer of hope with two boundaries and a six, only to be removed by Jake Ball at 19. Amidst the drama, rain played spoilsport, briefly halting the game with Nottinghamshire in the lead based on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.

Fortunately, the hindrance in play didn't result in any reduction of overs, and Warwickshire was able to resume their chase at 76/5 after seven overs. Robert Yates, who opened alongside Davies, retained his composure, contributing a well-crafted 65 off 46 deliveries to ignite the revival.

Yates and Jacob Bethell (27) put up a commendable fight and added 69 runs for the sixth wicket before Yates fell in the 16th over. Jake Lintott, with his unbeaten 27 off 22, and Henry Brook, who hit the winning boundary in the final over, carried Warwickshire from a dire 7/4 to a thrilling victory as Afridi’s magnificent spell went in vain.
