Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) wicketkeeper Phil Salt grabbed his third catch of the evening by holding on to Kumar Kushagra’s inside edge off Varun Chakravarthy in match number 47 of the IPL 2024 season.

Turning up for his franchise at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the wicket also marked Chakravarthy’s third of the match as the Capitals slipped to 111-8 inside 15 overs at one stage.

Astute Phil Salt claims another smart catch vs DC

KKR’s in-form wicketkeeper-batter Phil Salt had a prolific evening behind the stumps against Delhi Capitals. After seizing two catches to dismiss Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw and dangerman Tristan Stubbs, the England-based stumper also held on to a smart catch induced off an inside edge from ‘Impact Player’ Kumar Kushagra.

Salt’s moment of wicketkeeping brilliance occurred during the 15th over of the Delhi Capitals innings, as the visitors slumped to a precarious 111-8. The wicket also marked Varun Chakravarthy’s third scalp of the evening to finish with astonishing figures of 3-16 from four overs.

Salt's brilliant catch

Earlier in the match, Delhi Capitals lost each of their top four batters within just the first seven overs of the innings after winning the toss and opting to bat upfront. Openers Prithvi Shaw and Jake Fraser-McGurk scored just 13 and 12 respectively while Abhishek Porel scored a near run-a-ball 18.

Captain and the leading run-scorer of the franchise this year, Rishabh Pant also failed to make much impact in the game despite gaining some momentum earlier in his innings.

Among the KKR bowlers, Chakravarthy (3-16) inflicted the most damage to the visitors and he received much assistance from fellow wicket-takers Vaibhav Arora, Mitchell Starc, Harshit Rana and Sunil Narine.
