Tom Hartley’s dream run in Test cricket continues as he got the wicket of Rajar Patidar in his first over of the ongoing third Test at the Niranjan Shah Cricket Stadium in Rajkot.

After the opening bursts of the fast bowlers, during which England earned two wickets, skipper Ben Stokes decided to rest James Anderson, ending his first spell in which he bowled four overs. Tom Hartley was introduced as the first change bowler.

And he didn't disappoint his skipper, as he got the breakthrough from Patidar, who is playing just his second Test.

It was the fifth delivery of the ninth over when Patidar went for a boundary off Hartley’s bowling, but he got out while doing that. It was just a fraction short outside the off-stump line, but Patidar hung his bat out horizontally, looking to steer it away, but was undone by the sharp turn and bounce. It lobbed up towards cover where Ben Duckett took the simplest of catches.

It was a nothing delivery from Hartley, and it was a nothing shot from Patidar. Having faced a lot of balls, the pressure was mounting on the Indian batter, and in search of a boundary, he lost his wicket, leaving India reeling at 33/3.

Earlier in the day, after winning the coin toss, India opted to bat first, something that England also wanted to do given the flat nature of the wicket. However, losing the toss proved to be a blessing in disguise for the visitors, as they lost wickets quickly within the first hour of play. Mark Wood squared up with Yashasvi Jaiswal to provide the first breakthrough. In his next over, he got another centurion from the last game - Shubman Gill, with a peach of a delivery. Hartley came in, and he also got the wicket, providing a great start for the Three Lions.
