The recent Pakistan Super League (PSL 2024) last ball thriller clash between Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United saw Pakistan stalwarts Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi engaged in a stiff battle before the latter had the last laugh with a sensational wicket.

With nothing to lose, the Qalandars toiled hard to maintain their pride against Islamabad United on Wednesday evening. However, the matchup got unnecessarily dragged to the final over owing to Naseem Shah and Faheem Ashraf's heroics.

From 38/6, Naseem and Ashraf made a game for Islamabad United, with the former launching fury on one of Pakistan's top-rated pacer, Shaheen Afridi. In the 16th over, Naseem Shah switched gears and smoked two back-to-back sixes off Afridi, reigniting a glimmer of hope in the United camp.

After the first hit, Afridi switched around the wicket, but a determined Naseem smoked a six-over point in a phenomenal shot per his standards.

With tension mounting, Shaheen Afridi used his experience to outclass Naseem Shah. He bowled a quick, fuller delivery onto the stumps. Naseem walked on the backfoot to defend but was beaten by the pace, and the ball pegged the off-stump to end the batter's resilient stay at the crease.

Meanwhile, an ecstatic Afridi embraced Naseem's resistance and gave him a tight hug before the batter walked back.

Needless to say, the tense battle generated immense excitement for the cricket fans back in Pakistan as Afridi enjoyed the last laugh to guide his team through the first victory of the PSL 2024 season.

However, it meant nothing for the defending champions, Lahore Qalandars, as they were ousted from the playoff race after having lost six of the six games played prior to this matchup.

While it's a season to forget for the two-time champions, this last-ball thriller win will serve as a consolation prize to the passionate fans.
