In a fantastic first hour of Day 3's play, India clipped back-to-back wickets to regain control over the game. After Jasprit Bumrah removed Joe Root, Kuldeep Yadav sent Jonny Bairstow packing on a duck as the Englishman was perplexed by the sharp turn off the pitch.

After Ravichandran Ashwin pulled out for the rest of the Rajkot Test last night, India had to take the field with 10 players and a substitute fielder. Regardless, the hosts' morale didn't take a hit as they looked to make the most of the first hour of Day 3's play.

Bumrah drew the first blood of the day by removing Joe Root. Moments later, leg-spinner Kuldeep Yadav capitalised on the momentum and sent explosive batter Jonny Bairstow on a duck with an absolute ripper delivery.

Kuldeep bowled a flighted good-length delivery just outside the off-stump line. However, after hitting the deck, the ball turned sharply and was good enough to take Jonny by surprise. He was caught on the pads, and to the naked eye, it looked like a plumb LBW dismissal.

Yet Jonny Bairstow chose to burn the review only to see three reds appear on the ball tracking. Kuldeep had his first wicket of the game, and India suddenly injected life into this game.

With centurion Ben Duckett still on the crease, India's job is far from done. The hosts are one bowler short, which will require skipper Rohit Sharma to play smart and use his options carefully and mindfully.

Perhaps the captain chips in some overs in the middle to give his bowler a sigh of relief.
