In a heartbreaking moment for MI fans, captain Hardik Pandya, supposedly the team's last hope in a mammoth 258 runs chase, was deceived by DC's impact sub-Rasikh Salam's slower delivery and threw his wicket at a crucial stage.

Mumbai Indians lacked desired intent in a tumultuous 258-run chase against Delhi Capitals earlier today at Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan contributed with just 28 runs before Suryakumar Yadav's attempt to attack was foiled by Khaleel Ahmed.

However, against the odds, MI captain Hardik Pandya stepped up to lead from the front and made a mockery of Kuldeep Yadav to fetch 19 crucial runs.

Hardik Pandya was batting at an impressive strike rate of 191.67 before DC's impact sub-Rasikh Salam deceived him by taking the pace off the bowl.

Rasikh anticipated Hardik to go hard and, hence, bowled a slower delivery to catch him off guard. Pandya fell into the trap, failed to read the ball, and ended up early for a shot.

He mistimed the shot horribly as Mukesh Sharma took a regulation catch at point to end Hardik's best knock of the season so far.

The dangerous partnership brewing between Hardik Pandya and Tilak Verma was also broken as MI's win chances plummeted massively following the captain's dismissal.

Notably, Hardik Pandya was subject to heavy criticism for allowing 41 runs in 2 overs in DC's 257 runs in the first innings. However, Pandya bounced back from the setback to lead MI's charge despite a fall of wickets.

Following Pandya's wicket, the onus to take the game deep will fall on Tilak Verma and Tim David as half the Mumbai Indians side returned back to the hut with over 80 runs still left to chase in the death overs.
