Melbourne Renegades opener Quinton de Kock belted a swift 23 against Melbourne Stars in match number 23 of the ongoing BBL 2023-24 season. The South African cricketer pounded three boundaries and a six to provide his side a rollicking start at the top after the game was reduced to a 14-overs-a-side affair at the MCG.

Fortunately for the Stars, de Kock’s gung-ho powerplay approach was curtailed by skipper Glenn Maxwell in the sixth over of the innings itself.

Glenn Maxwell halts Quinton de Kock’s rampage

Melbourne Renegades’ South African import Quinton de Kock is yet to list a single 50-plus score this BBL 2023-24 season. After falling for a duck against Adelaide Strikers at Docklands, the elegant left-hander pumped out 23 runs from just 16 balls against Melbourne Stars in his following outing at the MCG.

His innings propelled Renegades towards a healthy powerplay start, until he was holed out by Beau Webster at long-on against Glenn Maxwell’s off-spin.

Quinton de Kock’s untimely dismissal triggered a colossal batting collapse within the Melbourne Renegades ranks, as they secured just 97-7 from their 14 overs after being firmly placed at 45-1 in five overs.

Glenn Maxwell conceded just eight runs from his three overs after opening bowlers Joel Paris and Marcus Stoinis were taken apart by de Kock’s early onslaught.

As of now, the Melbourne Stars are placed at number four on the BBL 2023-24 points table after they shrugged off their three opening defeats with three successive wins over Sixers, Hurricanes and Strikers respectively.

The Renegades, on the other hand, are placed at number seven on the eight-team standings as they have secured just one win from their six fixtures so far in the tournament.
