Guyana Amazon Warriors’ number three Shai Hope flayed a hapless Barbados Royals attack with a scintillating century in their final league affair of the 2023 CPL season. Arriving to the crease in the fourth over of the match, the cricketer smeared 106 runs of just 44 balls, and took a special liking to Royals’ spinner Rahkeem Cornwall during the death overs of the innings.

Hope’s whirlwind effort marked his first T20 ton, and he was fittingly adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ after his side’s 88-run table-topping win.

Shai Hope goes berserk in Guyana’s 16th over

Arriving to the crease at 35-1, Shai Hope raced to 69* off 35 balls by the end of the 15th over of the Guyana Amazon Warriors innings. Thereafter, the cricketer launched an extraordinary sequence of fours and sixes, all against Barbados Royals spinner Rahkeem Cornwall.

Hope bludgeoned two boundaries and four huge maximums to reap 32 runs from a single Cornwall over, thus rocketing up from a 35-ball 69* to a 41-ball hundred.

Hope’s blinder at the Providence Stadium catapulted Guyana Amazon Warriors to a colossal 226-7 from their 20 overs.

Barbados Royals’ run-chase never took off as their lower-order resorted to survival mode after team slipped to 49-5 inside the halfway stage of the innings.

The Warriors, under Imran Tahir, ended up winning their last league fixture by 88 runs, thus consolidating their number one position on the CPL 2023 points table.

They will now face the Trinbago Knight Riders in Qualifier 1 at the same venue on September 20.
