In a thrilling first T20I clash between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Matheesha Pathirana once again proved why he's rated so highly by dismantling the Afghan batting line-up with figures of 4/24, ultimately securing victory for his team. 

Pathirana's consistent performances have solidified his position as a crucial component of the Chennai Super Kings' bowling line-up under the leadership of MS Dhoni in the IPL. His continual rise in stature for Sri Lanka is evident through his consistent displays of skill and effectiveness on the field.

With his distinctive slinging action and adeptness at bowling yorkers, Pathirana earned the moniker 'Baby Malinga.' His impactful performance against Afghanistan exemplified his rising stature in Sri Lanka's cricketing landscape. 

Pathirana's spell began by dismissing the in-form all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai for a mere two runs and later claiming the crucial wicket of big-hitting all-rounder Karim Janat for 16. 

He continued on his merry way by removing Noor Ahmad and Naveen-ul-Haq, ultimately finishing with impressive figures of 4/24 off his four overs, playing a match-winning hand to Sri Lanka's narrow 4-run victory while defending a total of 160 runs.

Pathirana's stellar performance drew praise from his IPL franchise, Chennai Super Kings, who commended his match-winning efforts with a heartfelt post. 

His exceptional form bodes well for CSK as they gear up for the upcoming IPL 2024 season. Pathirana played a pivotal role in CSK's triumphant campaign last season, clinching their fifth IPL title with 19 wickets from 12 matches. 

His consistency and impact with the ball, especially in the death overs, were instrumental in CSK's success, and the franchise will rely on him to maintain his stellar form with the ball. 

As CSK prepares for IPL 2024, reports suggest that their pre-season camp will commence from March 01, with Dhoni and other Indian players such as Shivam Dube, Deepak Chahar, and Prashant Solankar likely to participate. 

While the official schedule for IPL 2024 is yet to be announced by the BCCI, the league is anticipated to commence next month.
