A capacity turnout was witnessed at the DY Patil Stadium for India Women’s blockbuster clash against the visiting Australians on January 9. The match, marking the third T20I and the decider of the series, will also conclude Australia’s three-week long tour to India.

The grand setting behind the contest seems to have invited a large number of supporters to cheer for the ‘Women in Blue’, with many unlucky ones even finding it difficult to get inside the stadium owing to the lack of available tickets. The overwhelming demand for entry to witness this crucial match signifies the escalating interest and support for women’s cricket in India.

Fans face “Tickets over stadium full” board for 3rd T20I

A number of fans were spotted waiting outside the 45,000-seater DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai for India’s third T20I match against Australia Women. Eager to gain entrance into the iconic venue, the enthusiastic Indian supporters came across the dreaded sign on the stadium that read:

“Tickets over, stadium full.”

As far as cricketing action is concerned, Australian skipper Alyssa Healy won the toss and opted to field first. Indian openers Shafali Verma and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana provided their side a blazing start at the top of the order, before the former was entrapped by visiting speedster Megan Schutt.

Earlier in the series, India Women routed Australia by nine wickets in the first T20I, while Healy and co. responded back with an emphatic six-wicket victory a couple of days later at the same Navi Mumbai venue.
