Even though Babar Azam is not as fast as some of the most prolific batters in the world such as Virat Kohli and Steve Smith, you don’t often see him getting dismissed via run-out. 

However, on Monday, during Peshawar Zalmi’s PSL 2024 fixture against Islamabad United, it happened at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Coming to chase a challenging target of 197, Babar, the Peshawar skipper, defended a shortish delivery off Naseem Shah in an attempt to complete a quick single. The ball went to Alex Hales, who was placed at mid-off. Hales saw Babar was not too fast while running between the wickets, and took his chance.

And the Englishman delivered, as his sharp under-arm throw broke the stumps at the non-strikers’ end. Even though Hales was not sure about whether he got his man, the replay on the big screen showed Babar was short of the crease when the wickets were broken.

Meanwhile, Peshawar are in complete trouble after coming to chase, having lost four wickets while adding just 18 runs on the board. Rovman Powell and Paul Walter are in the middle, off 0* and 4* respectively.
