Gulbadin Naib bludgeoned 57 scintillating runs from just 35 balls until his threatening stay at the crease was curtailed by Indian spinner Axar Patel. Arriving in the middle within the opening powerplay for Afghanistan at Indore in the second T20I of their three-match series against hosts India, Naib belted four sixes and five sizzling boundaries, and took a special liking to Shivam Dube and Washington Sundar in the middle overs.

Notably, Naib’s dismissal at the hands of Axar Patel also helped the Indian spinner complete 200 wickets in T20 matches.

Number three Gulbadin Naib blazed his way to a rollicking start for Afghanistan following their early jitters within the powerplay. The cricketer shared crucial partnerships with captain Ibrahim Zadran and senior man Mohammad Nabi until he was dismissed by Indian spinner Axar Patel at 91-4.

Naib, in his attempt to thwack Patel for another huge hit, merely managed to find Indian captain Rohit Sharma stationed at short midwicket during the 12th over of the Afghanistan innings.

Axar Patel eventually finished with figures of 2-17 from four overs, and his spell helped him complete 200 wickets in T20 cricket.

Following Gulbadin Naib’s dismissal, Afghanistan’s lower-order batters, Najibullah Zadran, Karim Janat, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, helped them blaze past the 150-run mark in their must-win game at Indore’s Holkar Stadium.

Afghanistan headed into the contest off the back of their six-wicket defeat to India at Mohali’s INS Stadium earlier in the week.
