West Indies limited-overs barbarian Andre Russell muscled his team out of crisis against Australia in the third T20I of their three-match series at the Perth Stadium. Making his way to the crease in the ninth over of the innings, the belligerent right-hander still found time to smear seven sixes and four boundaries over the course of his 29-ball stay in the middle.

Russell ended up smacking 71 runs in all to catapult West Indies from a troublesome 79-5 to a colossal 220-6 by the completion of their 20 overs. Remarkably, one of his seven maximums from the day landed amongst the crowd miles above long-on boundary.

Andre Russell launches Adam Zampa over long-on

West Indies lost three quick wickets inside the opening powerplay, and lost a couple more in succession a while later to slip to 79-5 by the first nine overs of their innings. Andre Russell arrived to the center following the early dismissal of captain Rovman Powell, which prompted unbeaten Sherfane Rutherford to form a fresh recovery effort with the all-rounder.

After cautiously negating the first four deliveries of his innings, Russell unleashed his first sign of intent by clubbing Spencer Johnson for a four and a six to race to a seven-ball 13*. In the following over of Adam Zampa, the West Indies juggernaut launched the Australian spinner way back over the long-on boundary into the section of a lively Perth crowd.

While Russell’s totalitarian hit off Zampa marked his second maximum of the day, the 35-year-old unleashed five more sixes in his innings to race to a career-best T20I score of 71 from just 29 deliveries.

His whirlwind half-century, coupled with Sherfane Rutherford’s 40-ball 67* took West Indies to 220-6 as they aim to seek a consolation win in the final match of the Australian tour.

Andre Russell will soon be seen donning the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) jersey in the upcoming IPL 2024 season. The cricketer was retained by the KKR management back in November 2023, and the IPL 2024 itself is scheduled to commence sometime in late March.
