After scoring tons of runs in first-class cricket, Sarfaraz Khan finally turned his dream into a reality as he received his India cap ahead of the start of the third Test match on Thursday. Despite scoring a plethora of runs consistently in Test cricket, the Mumbai batter was overlooked by selectors for the last couple of years.

However, the absence of top players like KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer tempted them to invite Khan to showcase his mettle at the biggest stage.

On Thursday, before the toss, the 26-year-old couldn’t believe his eyes as he received his debut Test cap from legendary Test bowler Anil Kumble.

Having worked so hard in first-class cricket, Sarfaraz Khan was bound to get emotional at that moment. In a video posted by the BCCI, the Indian cricketer shared his heart as he narrated his feelings after receiving the Test cap from Anil Kumble.

‘Tears would often come from my eyes thinking I would get a chance to play one day. My father just told me one thing to keep working hard and no one can stop you. I think keeping faith in yourself and having loads of patience is very important.” Sarfaraz Khan said in a video posted by the BCCI.

To those working hard, I want to tell you that the sun will rise at the right time: Sarfaraz Khan's father

Sarfaraz Khan’s father was standing at a distance when his son was handed his debut cap. His father couldn’t control his emotions and cried inconsolably. His father narrated his feelings with a ‘Shayiri’, which went like

“Jo mera khwaab hai, aankhon ka hissa kyun nahi hota,

Diye hum bhi jallate hain, ajula kyun nahi hota”

‘After watching my son receive the cap, my thoughts on hard work have changed. To all those kids, who are working hard, I want to tell you that the sun will rise at the right time. Your job is to keep working hard and not give up,” Sarfaraz’s father said.

Sarfaraz Khan came to bat after the departure of Rohit Sharma in the 64th over with the scoreboard reading 237 for 4. Khan has handled his nerves wonderfully and scored 62 off 66 balls before an unfortunate run-out ended his heroics.
