Sarfaraz Khan Scores Sensational Hundred Off 89 Balls Following Massive Heartbreak

Sarfaraz Khan has, once again, put a huge question mark on selectors' decision to not pick him as a replacement for Virat Kohli for the first two Tests against England in the ongoing five-match Test series.

Indian batter scored a heart-warming century in the ongoing 2nd unofficial Test match against England Lions at Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday. The first Test match of the series resulted in a draw and India need to win the second Test to claim the series.

On day 2 of the Test, they have found themselves in a pretty good position at 364 for 6 in 86 overs. Abhimanyu Easwaran (58 off 108) and Devdutt Padikkal scored a quick century, stitching a mammoth 162-run opening partnership.

However, the departure of the former saw wickets falling in quick intervals. From 162 for 1, India slipped to 184 for 4. Sarfaraz Khan then joined hands with Washington Sundar to steady the ship.

Sarfaraz, who doesn’t boast of an outstanding record for India A team, went on to score a century in just 89 balls. Despite the fall of wickets, he played a counter-attacking knock, which had 13 fours and 5 sixes. At the time of writing, he is unbeaten on 129 off 115 balls, striking at 112.17.

Washington Sundar, on the other hand, played as a second fiddle to Sarfaraz. He amassed 57 off 132 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six.

Prior to the century he scored today, Sarfaraz has had a mixed run for India A. In 10 matches, he has scored 366 runs in 10 matches at an average of 36.60. However, his ton against England Lions on Thursday would have left the selectors scratching their heads.

Rajat Patidar pip Sarfaraz Khan as Virat Kohli’s replacement for England Tests

Earlier, Rajat Patidar was given the nod ahead of the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara and Sarfaraz Khan to replace Virat Kohli for the first two Test matches against England.

The BCCI released a statement on Tuesday, mentioning that Virat Kohli had pulled out of the first two Test matches against England due to personal reasons. The selectors had a lot of options at their disposal but, eventually, went with Rajat Patidar.

The selection, perhaps, came on the back of a sensational 151-run knock played by Patidar in the first unofficial Test match against England Lions. Nevertheless, Sarfaraz Khan has shown great form in first-class cricket over the last few years and him making the cut into the Test team, perhaps, is around the corner.
