For the second game of the mid-week doubleheader, defending champions Lahore Qalandars will clash with last year's runners-up, Multan Sultans, at Multan Cricket Stadium on Wednesday from 7.30 PM IST onwards. This season, the Sultans have been clinical, whereas the Qalandars struggled in the season opener.

Multan Sultans

Multan Sultans demolished Karachi Kings in their season-opening game this year. Reeza Hendricks and Dawid Malan unleashed carnage with the willow to post a par score of 185 runs on the board.

While the target looked gettable at some stage, David Willey and Abbas Afridi chipped in wickets at regular intervals to avert the risk of long partnerships. 

Later, Mohammad Ali got rid of the tail to secure a comfortable victory for his side.

It was indeed a clinical all-round performance for Rizwan and co. While the skipper, Mohammad Rizwan, failed to sparkle his magic, his well balance unit covered it up to register a thumping 55-run victory to boost the net run rate,

However, taking on a star-studded Lahore Qalandars would be a task in itself for the Sultans. They must avenge last season's finals loss to climb further in the points table.

Lahore Qalandars

Defending champions Lahore Qalandars endured a brutal defeat against Islamabad United in the PSL 2024 season-opening game.

A mammoth total of 195 runs proved to be too little for Shadab Khan and Agha Salman, as their 100+ runs partnership aided the United to register a commanding eight-wicket victory. 

Haris Rauf and Zaman Khan, the Qalandar's trump cards, were hammered brutally as Shaheen Afridi fell short of a counterattack to stop Islamabad's onslaught. 

Needless to say, Lahore missed the services of Rashid Khan, who continues to recover from back surgery.

Regardless, the upcoming game against Multan Sultans is a fitting chance at redemption. Shaheen Afridi knows Mohammad Rizwan's side in and out, which could be a big advantage.
