'Our bowlers were spot on'- Kane Williamson reflects on New Zealand win

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson lauded his bowlers for restricting Bangladesh to an under-par total on what he described as a challenging pitch to bat at the Hagley Oval after the home side romped home to an 8-wicket win in the 3rd T20I of the on-going tri-series.

Having come up short in the first game against Pakistan, the New Zealand bowlers were right on the money against Bangladesh on Sunday, with Tim Southee and Trent Boult leading the pace-attack with two wickets apiece and Ish Sodhi and Michael Bracewell spinning a cobweb.

Each of the 4 bowlers shared two wickets each, with Bracewell being the most economical- 14 runs in 4 overs- of the lot as NZ restricted Bangladesh to 137/8.

The target was easily hunted down by the BlackCaps thanks to an unbeaten 51-ball 70* from opener Devon Conway.

Speaking to the host broadcaster after the match, Kane Williamson said:

"Bangladesh played nicely in the powerplay, we knew the wicket was a challenge to bat fluently, but our bowlers were spot on to restrict them to a low total and then we had the partnerships going with the bat."

New Zealand have experimented with their playing XI

While experienced opener Martin Guptill is yet to get to a game, the supporting-cast role of the seam-attack has been shared by Blair Tickner and Adam Milne, with the latter getting the nod on Sunday.

Williamson reiterated that the final XI is being picked on a 'horses for courses' basis and it will continue to be the case in the upcoming games.

"It is horses for courses policy for the first few matches, we will keep looking at our options going ahead."

New Zealand will next face Pakistan in Christchurch on 11th October.
