Lucknow Super Giants consigned hosts Punjab Kings to their fourth defeat of the ongoing IPL 2023 season on April 28. The KL Rahul-led side blasted 257 upfront, on the back of explosive knocks from Kyle Mayers, Marcus Stoinis, Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran.

Pooran himself clubbed a 19-ball 45, thus capitalising on the fiery start provided by the Super Giants top order. After the match, he expressed his excitement for the win and revealed why he is not too concerned about any personal milestones.

Nicholas Pooran reveals team’s game plan in second innings

Nicholas Pooran arrived to the crease in just the 14th over of his team’s innings, having already mounted 163 by the time. The scenario allowed the West Indian batter to launch an aggressive assault from the outset. He formed a 76-run stand with Stoinis off just 28 deliveries, and the partnership itself charged up the Super Giants total to 257-5.

After the match, he acknowledged the excellent batting surface of Mohali, and how his team is celebrating their newly earned two points. Notably, these points, coupled with their 56-run victory margin, boosted them up to number two on the IPL 2023 points table.

Pooran also revealed the game plan of how his team utilised the boundary dimensions to their advantage during Punjab Kings run-chase. He said:

“I think we are more happy that we got those two points at the end of the night. I felt it was a really good batting wicket. The bowlers, we knew that there was one big side and one short side and once you can control the Powerplay, we were going to try to make the batters hit into the bigger side,"

When asked about what he thinks of missing out on a well-deserved half-century, he prioritised the team’s importance and explained why he will take a 40-odd in a winning cause instead.

“Unfortunately, but so it goes. I'm happy to contribute to the team performance. There's times as batsmen we don't score much runs but I'll take 40-odd any day.”

Pooran will now turn up for the LSG in their subsequent fixture, i.e., a home game against the RCB on May 1.
