Pooja Vastrakar, Deepti Sharma complete demolition job

After setting a record target of 479, India’s new-ball merchant Renuka Singh landed the early punch by cleaning up England top-order batter Tammy Beaumont for just 17 in her opening spell. Her pace mate Pooja Vastrakar accounted for the subsequent three English wickets, including that of captain Heather Knight and Nat Sciver-Brunt, all within her first three overs of the innings to reduce the visitors at 68-4 at one stage.

Emboldened by Renuka and Pooja’s early bursts, spinners Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Deepti Sharma completed the demolition job by mowing down the entirety of England’s lower-half on their own. Deepti snared four wickets in the innings, to tally nine in the game, thus registering her career-best match-haul with figures of 9-39 in 13.3 overs.

Team India eventually folded up the Englishwomen for just 131 within the morning session to secure a 347-run win, which also marks the largest margin of victory in women’s Test history.
