India secured a nerve-wracking four-wicket victory in their World Cup opener against arch-rivals Pakistan at the iconic MCG on Sunday. Chasing 160, India were in a spot of bother, reeling at 31 for four at one stage. However, a match-winning 113-run stand between Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya worked wonders for the Men in Blue, helping them get over the line in the final delivery.

With this astounding victory, India set the record for the most number of international wins in a calendar year. They surpassed Australia's tally of 38 wins, which they recorded in 2003.

The year 2022 didn't start on a great note for the Indian team, as they were handed five consecutive defeats across formats by a rampant South African team. However, they made a remarkable comeback, registering  five ODI bilateral series against West Indies, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, England and South Africa.

Additionally, they had emerged victorious in 23 T20Is prior to this game. And now, they have dethroned the invincible Australian team of the early 2000s to attain this phenomenal feat.

India announced their arrival in the World Cup with this stunning victory. They will next take on the Netherlands on Thursday.
