The second day of the league stage in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) saw a total of two matches unfolding at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Let’s take a quick recap of what transpired.


Match 3: Dhaka Dominators vs Khulna Tigers

Chasing a paltry 114, Dhaka Dominators lost Ahmad Shehzad early as the opener was forced to retire hurt after taking a blow on his right arm off the bowling of Paul van Meerkeren. Following that, the Tigers did keep things tight with the ball as the Dominators were 66 for 3 at one point. However, Nasir Hossain took his side home rather comfortably at the end with 5 balls remaining.

Earlier, after being asked to bat first, Khulna Tigers could only manage 113 for 8 in the first innings. The Tigers had a horrible start with the bat as the top-order struggled against the new ball and were 32 for 3 in the first 6 overs. Skipper Yasir Ali was their best batter, who tried to reconstruct the innings, but could only add 24 runs from his bat. Al-Amin Hossain stole the show with the ball as he took four wickets for 28 runs in his 4 overs.

Fortune Barishal vs Sylhet Strikers

Batting first, the Barishal openers got them off to a great start and added 54 runs in the first six overs. They lost two quick wickets post powerplay which led to the arrival of Shakib Al Hasan, who continued the onslaught and scored a magnificent 67 off 32. His innings changed the momentum of the game completely and Barishal posted a massive 194-run total in the first innings.

Chasing the target of 195, Sylhet Strikers lost Ackermann early in the innings, but the duo of Hridoy and Shanto did well to keep the chase on and went on to add 101 runs for the second wicket. With needing more than 11 runs per over after 12 overs, Zakir Hasan, batting at four, played a match winning knock of 43 off 18 balls and the Strikers completed the chase with one over remaining.
