Top Five Performances of the Series

With the 119-run victory over West Indies at the Queen's Park Oval, India completed a whitewash in the three-match ODI series. Notably, Shikhar Dhawan became the first Indian captain to achieve the feat in the island nation.

In this article, we, at OneCricket, have picked the top five performances in the series.

5. Kyle Mayers 75 off 68, 1st ODI:
The visitors set up a challenging total of 308 runs for the West Indians to chase down. In a thrilling contest, Kyle Mayers set the tone for his team, striking at a brisk rate of 110.29.

Although the hosts lost by three runs, it was Mayers’ knock that got them so close to the mammoth total.

4. Yuzvendra Chahal 4 for 17, 3rd ODI: The third and final match of the series was significantly cut short due to rain. West Indies were given a target of 257 runs in 35 overs to register their first victory of the series.

But Yuzi Chahal spun his web around the West Indies batters and helped India clinch a convincing win in the match. Chahal picked four wickets for just 17 runs in his four overs. More importantly, he got rid of Shai Hope, swinging the game into India’s favour.

3. Shai Hope 115 off 135, 2nd ODI: After a narrow defeat in the first match, the Windies were eager to win this match and level the series.

Shai Hope provided a solid platform for his team by slamming a brilliant ton. The Barbadian keeper-batter stroked his way through an attractive 115, helping his team reach 311 runs in their 50 overs.

Although the hosts failed to defend the total, Hope’s knock was a resilient effort worthy of recognition.

2. Shubman Gill 98* off 98, 3rd ODI: Shubman Gill has been in the scheme of Indian cricket for the past couple of years. Hailed highly for his potential by the experts, the young man had not translated his potential into impactful performances prior to this series.

However, in the rain-influenced 3rd ODI, Gill displayed great determination and resilience as he smashed his way through to a fluent 98-ball 98*.

His efforts took India to 225 in 36 overs, which proved too much for the hosts.

1. Axar Patel 64* off 35, 2nd ODI: Axar Patel exhibited his batting prowess most convincingly in the second match of the series.

Chasing 312, the visitors were reeling at 205 for five in 38.4 overs when the Gujarat-born entered the middle.

Although contributions came from the other end, India kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Axar, however, did not lose his composure and played a gem of a knock. Scoring 64 off 35 balls, he took his team over the line in a run-chase where many had counted India out.

The dramatic turnaround he staged for his team earns him the top spot in One Cricket’s list of top performances in the series.
