The Sydney Thunder have signed Lea Tahuhu and Saskia Horley as replacement players for the upcoming Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) 2022 season.

New Zealand's Tahuhu comes in for England's Amy Jones, who will miss the opening match of the WBBL 08, due to prior commitments.

Tahuhu has played all her WBBL cricket for the Melbourne Renegades between 2016 and 2022, scalping 53 wickets from 61 appearances. One of the fastest bowlers going around, she has played 152 international matches for the White Ferns.

Other two overseas players for Thunder are Tammy Beaumont and Chloe Tryon.

On the other hand, Horley returns to the Thunder after being associated with them between 2018 and 2020.

The 22-year-old comes in for the injured Hannah Darlington, who is undergoing rehabilitation, and will be available only after seven matches.

She recently played for Scotland in the ICC Women's World Cup T20 Qualifiers, having played Under-19 cricket for Australia.

Coach Trevor Griffin sounded ecstatic about signing Tahuhu and Horley.

Griffin talking about Tahuhu and Horley

“She’s the fastest bowler in the world; she has plenty of experience including international matches, World Cups, she’s played in major T20 tournaments - including the WBBL and the UK – and has a wealth of knowledge.”

“She is a three-stacked player – one who can bat, bowl, and field extremely well. I’m looking forward to again working with Saskia."

Thunder's WBBL 08 tourney begins on October 14, when they take on Hobart Hurricanes.
