Australian all-round veteran Ellyse Perry held on to a stunning caught-and-bowled in match number 49 of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2023 season.

Leading Sydney Sixers in their must-win penultimate league fixture, the 33-year-old dismissed South African-based Brisbane Heat batter Mignon du Preez to list her second wicket of the evening before setting up her side’s run-chase path with a barrage of powerplay boundaries.

Perry pouches a stunner to cap sizzling all-round triple

Sydney Sixers captain Ellyse Perry, after inviting Brisbane Heat to bat first, opened the bowling alongside Lauren Cheatle. The legendary all-rounder struck within her opening spell by removing Heat opener Georgia Redmayne.

Perry later returned and curtailed Mignon du Preez’s threatening stay at the crease with a sensational caught-and-bowl grab to worsen Heat’s troubles at 98-4.

Ellyse Perry eventually finished her spell with 3-40 from her four overs, thus restricting Brisbane Heat to 176-7 from their 20 overs upfront.

Opening the batting for her side in their run-chase alongside New Zealand veteran Suzie Bates, Perry bludgeoned a 10-ball 20 inside the powerplay before edging one past to the Heat wicketkeeper Georgia Redmayne.

Her batting blitz set up a clear path for Sixers in an otherwise tense run-chase, with contributions from Bates, Ashleigh Gardner, Erin Burns, Mathilda Carmichael and Maitlan Brown seeing them past the finishing line with a ball and six wickets to spare.

Ellyse Perry was fittingly adjudged as the ‘Player of the Match’ for her all-round efforts, and the win itself lifted the Sixers to number five on the WBBL 2023 points table.
