Virat Kohli usurped by New Zealand Women’s star

New Zealand batter Suzie Bates recently scored 45 against South Africa in Benoni. Through the course of her knock, she became the first women’s cricketer, and second overall, to cross the 4,000-run mark in T20Is.

Bates additionally surpassed Virat Kohli’s T20I tally of 4,008 runs to become the new leading run-scorer of the format.

The New Zealand all-rounder was already the highest accumulator in women’s T20I cricket, leading second-placed Meg Lanning (3,405) by a staggering 616 runs. Among the top five highest run-getters from the format, men and women, Bates is the only female cricketer to feature in the celebrated list.

Despite attaining the momentous batting record, the New Zealander did not have much to celebrate for the occasion as her side fell 11 runs short of their target against South Africa. Her 45, coupled with Amelia Kerr’s 61 turned out to be the biggest denominators of New Zealand’s run-chase as none of the other batters, sans Kate Anderson’s 11, entered the double-digits.
