USA Cricket in huge turmoil after big decision [Source: @MLCricket, @clinkwrites/X.com]
USA Cricket has shockingly ended its partnership with American Cricket Enterprises (ACE), the company that created Major League Cricket (MLC). The move comes just months before the USA is set to host major cricket events and has left the board facing the possibility of bankruptcy.
According to Cricbuzz, the decision was taken after a tense three-hour board meeting. Chairman Venu Pisike and board members David Haubert, Srini Salver, Anj Balusu, and Pintoo Shah voted to end the 50-year agreement with ACE.
They outvoted directors Nadia Gruny, Kuljit Nijjar, Atul Rai, and Arjun Gona, who strongly opposed the move.
USA Cricket In Turmoil After Breaking Up With Funding Partners
This breakup is a big risk. Since 2019, ACE has pumped more than $10 million into USA Cricket, covering player salaries, operations, and sanction fees.
Without ACE’s quarterly payments, the Cricbuzz report says USA Cricket could run out of money within weeks. Not only that, but the legal side also looks messy.
USA Cricket’s own legal counsel warned that the termination might not survive arbitration, while another attorney reportedly called the move “reckless”. Still, the board’s majority went ahead.
Now the stakes are high. Preparations for upcoming tournaments, including the 2026 T20 World Cup, hang in the balance. A budget of $700,000 was already being planned for warm-up matches against teams like West Indies A and West Indies Women in October, but now those plans are in doubt.
What Caused A Fallout Between USA Cricket And ACE?
Interestingly, the fight between the two parties mainly centres around finances and management of the US National Team. USA Cricket reportedly accused ACE of failing to meet some of its obligations, like setting up a proper high-performance centre.
But ACE apparently insisted it had delivered, pointing to the Grand Prairie facility that hosted ICC World Cup matches in 2024. Despite constant back and forth, a resolution wasn’t reached, which led to the complete dissolution of the contract.
For now, Major League Cricket will continue since it has its own ICC sanction, but USA Cricket’s future looks shaky. With no ACE funding, the board risks sliding into bankruptcy at the worst possible time.
