David Warner has been ruled out of Australia’s squad for their third and final T20I of the series against New Zealand. The dashing opening batter was also rested from the playing XI of the second T20I as part of Australia’s rotation policy.

As of now, Warner has been ruled out of the final match of the series owing to an adductor injury he recently sustained. Interestingly, Test veteran Steve Smith played instead of Warner in the second T20I against New Zealand.

The recovery time frame for David Warner is estimated to be around seven to 10 days. According to an official statement issued by Cricket Australia, the 37-year-old will be requiring a brief recovery period which will not be affecting his availability for the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.

The tournament itself serves as a prelude to the impending T20 World Cup, set to be hosted by the West Indies and the United States in June.

Warner, who recently retired from ODIs and Test cricket, will be bowing out of international cricket for good following the conclusion of this year’s 2024 T20 World Cup.

The upcoming match against New Zealand will be staged at Auckland’s Eden Park on February 25. In Warner’s absence, one can expect Steve Smith to get another crack at the top of the order with Travis Head for Australia.

As noted by Cricket Australia, David Warner’s recovery timeframe will allow him full participation in the IPL 2024 season in India. The legendary opening batsman is set to reprise his role for the Delhi Capitals franchise. The cricketer was retained by the franchise back in November 2023 on IPL 2024 retention day.
