T20 Blast 2022 | From a run-feast in Trent Bridge to Worcestershire's dry run, a glance into the North group

Durham vs Yorkshire

Yorkshire Vikings handed Durham their sixth defeat of the season with a dominating 65-run victory. Electing to bat first, the Vikings were off to a rollicking start with openers Adam Lyth and Finn Allen at the crease.

The duo shared a 105-run opening partnership in just 8.2 overs. Scott Borthwick castled Allen on 48 (24 balls), and the leg-spinner went on to pick two more wickets.

Lyth continued his merry run but fell well short of the three-figure mark. His stellar knock of 81 came off 46 balls, with eleven fours and a six.

Durham were never in the chase as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Jack Shutt ran through the batting line-up to claim a 4-for.

Brief Scores: Yorkshire 201/5 in 20 overs (Adam Lyth 81, Finn Allen 48, Scott Borthwick 34/3) defeated Durham 136/8 in 20 overs (Oliver George Robinson 44, Jack Shutt 35/4) by 65 runs

Northamptonshire vs Lancashire

Northamptonshire Steelbacks brushed aside table-toppers Lancashire Lightning by chasing down 154 in just 16.2 overs.

Both the teams had some big names missing in this top-of-the-table fixture. Chris Lynn could not make the Northants’ XI with a side strain. Lancashire missed the services of Philip Salt and Liam Livingstone, who are on national duty. But the Steelbacks ensured that Lynn’s unavailability did not affect their performance.

Lancashire’s decision to bat first did not bode well as Northants’ bowlers hunted in a pack to restrict them to 153/7 in 20 overs.

Ben Curran (50) and Joshua Cobb (57) made light work of the chase by stitching 94 runs for the second wicket. Though they could not stay till the end, the damage had already been done.

With this victory, Northamptonshire are tied on 13 points with Lancashire, with the latter occupying the top spot due to better NRR.

Brief Scores: Northamptonshire 154/3 in 16.2 overs (Joshua Cobb 57, Ben Curran 50) defeated Lancashire 153/7 in 20 overs (Dane Vilas 38, Ben Sanderson 28/2, Graeme White 28/2) by seven wickets

Nottinghamshire vs Warwickshire

Being witness to a whirlwind Test run chase a few days ago, the Trent Bridge crowd got entertained with another run-fest. However, the home team, Nottinghamshire Outlaws, ended up as the losing side as Warwickshire matched up a 55-run victory.

Being sent into bat, Warwickshire’s Sam Hain and Adam Hose went berserk as they pummelled the Outlaws’ bowlers all over the park. Hain’s blistering unbeaten century (112 off 52 balls) and Hose’s undefeated 88 (35 balls) propelled the team’s total to a humongous 261/2.

Hain’s knock was studded with twelve fours and five sixes; Hose cleared the boundary ten times to go with his three fours.

With a mountain to climb, Nottinghamshire tried to get as close to the target, with Joe Clarke leading the way. Clarke scored 86 off 45, with eight fours and five sixes. However, the Outlaws' chase ultimately fizzled out as they got bowled out for 206.

Brief Scores: Warwickshire 261/2 in 20 overs (Sam Hain 112*, Adam Hose 88*, Robert Yates 53) defeated Nottinghamshire 206/10 in 18.2 overs (Joe Clark 86, Tom Moores 40, Carlos Brathwaite 31/3) by 55 runs

Leicestershire vs Worcestershire

Worcestershire Rapids’ dreadful run in the tournament continued as Leicestershire Foxes thrashed them by eight wickets.

Rapids were without their regular captain, Moeen Ali, which made the task of salvaging a win too challenging for them. After opting to bat first, the bottom dwellers could only muster 116/9 in 20 overs.

The trio of Ben Mike, Naveen ul Haq and Callum Parkinson broke the backbone of Worcestershire’s batting efforts, claiming three wickets each.

In reply, the Foxes made short work of the chase, with Arron Lilley (68*) and Nick Welch (418) sharing an unbroken 101-run partnership. At 17/2, the Foxes were in a spot of bother, but Lilley and Welch had other ideas.

Lilley smacked eleven fours and a six in his 38-ball innings to end Leicestershire’s four-match winless streak at home.

Brief Scores: Leicestershire 118/2 in 12.1 overs (Arron Lilley 68*, Nick Welch 41*) defeated Worcestershire 116/9 in 20 overs (Ben Mike 20/3, Naveen ul Haq 22/3, Callum Parkinson 28/3) by eight wickets
