Indian opener Shubman Gill is one of the young rising superstars in Indian Cricket. Right from his U-19 India days, Gill has been someone who has literally outshone everyone with a huge potential to become the next big thing in Indian Cricket.

The 24-year-old made his debut for India way back in 2019 and is currently a crucial part at the top of the order for men in blue in all three formats. With his remarkable penchant for big runs, Gill has made truckloads of them, especially in white ball cricket in the last 18 months or so.

Be it in the IPL for Gujarat Titans or in the international arena, the right handed batter has been at the top of his game for a significant period now. Considering his incredible consistency and his ability to shine under pressure, Gill will be a player to watch out for from the Indian side at the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to commence from October 5.

Raina's Bold Prediction On Shubman Gill For World Cup 2023

Former Indian Cricketer Suresh Raina was full of praise for Shubman Gill ahead of the 2023 World Cup. The 2011 World Cup winner knows what it takes in a player to make a difference in a tournament as big as this.

Speaking on the Jio Cinema Show Home of the Blues: India Heroes’, Raina considered Gill to be one of the most important factors for team India in the World Cup and is already in the aura to be someone like Virat Kohli in Indian cricket.

He further added that Gill has the potential to achieve the unthinkable in the upcoming edition of the ODI World Cup and replicate Rohit Sharma’s 2019 World Cup performance where he scored five centuries and amassed 648 runs in total.

"He will be one of the most important players at the World Cup. Spinners don't know where to bowl to him and if fast bowlers don't swing the ball, he can play those well with a straight or a flick. His mindset will not stop here. What Rohit Sharma did in the 2019 World Cup, Gill could do the same for India this year", Raina said.

Moreover, Raina sees Gill as someone who is a born leader, and someone who has the abilities to bounce back quickly from adversities.

"He’s been consistent for a year and a half. He struggled in the middle against the West Indies, but he came back and scored good runs in the Asia Cup. He is looking positive", Raina added.

Since 2022, Gill has scored almost 1700 ODI runs at an average of 70.4, including eight half centuries, five centuries and a double century as well. He will be in action next in the first ODI between India and Australia in Mohali on Friday, September 22.
