Sri Lanka's rising star, Kamindu Mendis has beaten competition from New Zealand's Matt Henry and Ireland's Mark Adair for the crown of ICC Men's Player of the month for March.

One of the fastest rising star in world cricket, Mendis became just the third Sri Lankan after Prabath Jayasuriya and Wanindu Hasaranga to win the coveted Player of the Month award.

A superb month for Mendis

The Sri Lankan all-rounder started off the month with 68 runs in the 3-match T20I series against Bangladesh, out of which 37 came in the second T20I. He continued his dominance in the Test series against the same opposition.

Mendis scored centuries in both innings of the first Test against the Tigers and etched his name in the history books. In the process, he became the first player batting at number seven or lower to score twin centuries in the same Test.

He was brought back in the Sri Lankan setup for the first time since 2022, and Mendis has proven all his doubters wrong.

Here's what he said after winning the award

"I am extremely happy to be named the ICC Men's Player of the Month, which I consider an inspiration for my international career," Mendis expressed. "A recognition such as this motivates and makes us as players work more and more to deliver in the middle for the team, country, and fans."

It was largely due to the performance of Mendis that Sri Lanka managed to thrash Bangladesh in their own backyard.
