Punjab Kings Name Jitesh Sharma As Skipper Shikhar Dhawan's Deputy For IPL 2024

Ahead of the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Punjab Kings have announced their new vice-captain Jitesh Sharma.  Sharma will act as a deputy to captain Shikhar Dhawan this season, having showcased his class in the last edition of IPL.

A post by IPL official 'X' handle, confirmed Sharma's elevation as vice-captain, who was present during the captain's photo shoot along with the coveted trophy. Sharma was brought by PBKS for INR 20 lakhs in 2020 auction.

Across two seasons, the wicketkeeper-batter has amassed 543 runs, with 309 coming in the last edition, which also witnessed the player earn his maiden Team India call-up. The 30-year-old is known to be a hard-hitting batter, who showcases explosive shots in the middle.

Overall, in 106 T20s, Sharma has scored 2,303 runs with one hundred and 10 fifties, which also include nine internationals for India, where the batter managed 100 runs. 

Led by Dhawan, the PBKS franchise will start their IPL 2024 campaign on March 23 against Delhi Capitals (DC) at Chandigarh. The franchise will play in the newly-build Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, which will host its first-ever IPL and T20 match.

The Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium is replacing the highly iconic IS Bindra Cricket Stadium in Mohali, which hosted PBKS between 2008 and 2023.

In 32 IPL contests between PBKS and DC, both teams have notched up 16 wins apiece, making the rivarly quite hearted.
