A high-stakes Asia Cup 2025 clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan has been ignited by a social media spat between two franchise giants. The Punjab Kings (PBKS) from the Indian Premier League faced intense backlash for a promotional banner that many deemed disrespectful, prompting a sharp and creative retort from Pakistan Super League's Karachi Kings ahead of Sunday's marquee match in Dubai.
The digital skirmish has added a layer of off-field tension to the already fierce sporting rivalry, overshadowing the on-field preparations of both national teams. The incident highlights how the immense passion surrounding cricket contests between the two nations often extends beyond the boundary rope.
Karachi Kings Give Clever Reply To PBKS
In the build up to the Asia Cup 2025 contest, PBKS shared a graphic post on social media. Fans quickly noticed something unusual: the Pakistan flag was missing from the post. Instead, only the Indian flag and the Asia Cup logo were shown. This odd omission led to a flood of funny and sarcastic reactions on X (formerly Twitter).

The move triggered widespread backlash from fans and cricket followers, who accused the IPL franchise of disrespect and political bias. Social media was flooded with criticism.
In a clever response, the PSL franchise, Karachi Kings, released their own creative poster with the caption, "Game 2 for Men in Green. Let’s goooo." The artwork depicted Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha playing chess against India’s captain, while the rival skipper’s figure was completely shadowed.

The gesture was widely praised by Pakistani fans, who lauded the franchise for standing up to Punjab Kings with a clever rebuttal.
This is not the first time an India-Pakistan clash has been overshadowed by off-field controversies. During the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2024, the India Champions refused to play Pakistan in both the league stage and the semifinal, citing political tensions. Similarly, several former Indian cricketers have previously called for boycotts of matches against Pakistan.
On the field, both teams enter the clash in strong form after winning their opening games. India bowled out hosts UAE for just 57 runs and chased the target inside 4.3 overs. Pakistan, meanwhile, posted 160-7 before dismissing Oman for 67 in 16.4 rounds.
