The India Women’s team has suffered a massive blow as star opener, Pratika Rawal, is reportedly ruled out of the World Cup semifinals vs the defending champions, Australia. The batter suffered a knee and an ankle injury during the league stage game against Bangladesh, and she was immediately taken off the field as a precautionary measure.

How Rawal suffered a horrific injury

The incident occurred in the 21st over of the Bangladesh innings, as the innings resumed two-and-a-half hours late due to rain and the ground was a bit wet. Fielding near the mid-wicket region, Pratika Rawal overran while trying to stop the ball, and her foot stuck in the turf and she twisted her ankle as the batter looked in discomfort.

The batter was taken off quickly, and she didn’t turn up for the remainder of Bangladesh's innings, as Amanjot Kaur replaced her as the opener. Now, ahead of the semis, RevSportz has reported that Rawal might not be fit for the crucial game against the Aussies and has been ruled out.

Pratika's absence a massive blow for India

India has already reached the semifinals, and Pratika played a key role in India’s journey. She forged a stellar opening partnership alongside her senior partner, Smriti Mandhana, as the duo have scored most of India’s runs in the tournament.

The left-right combination has worked wonders for the team as Pratika has got starts in most of the games, and she also slammed a century against the White-Ferns to book India’s passage in the semis.

In seven matches, she has racked up 308 runs, with an average of 51.33, including a century and a solitary fifty as well. Hence, India will feel the heat when they step out to take on the Aussies as their star opener will miss the crucial encounter, and now, they need to find a solid player to replace Pratika at the top.
