Former West Indies cricketer Phil Simmons has joined the Karachi Kings camp for the PSL 2024 season in Pakistan. The 60-year-old was appointed as the new head coach of the franchise in December 2023 as a replacement for Johan Botha.

Apart from Simmons, the Karachi Kings also appointed opening batsman Shan Masood as their new captain in a bid to revamp their squad composition following their dreadful performance last season.

Former West Indies all-rounder Phil Simmons has expressed his excitement about joining the Karachi Kings franchise for the PSL 2024 season. The ex-cricketer has some fond memories associated with Pakistan, considering he made his international debut with an ODI match at Lahore back in 1987 and also played his final Test match in the country in November 1997.

Simmons, who has coached West Indies, Ireland, and Afghanistan at the international level; claimed that it felt good to be back in a cricket-crazy country like Pakistan. During an interview with PakPassion, he said:

“Pakistan is great, It's good to be back.”

Aiming for a PSL reboot this season after a dreadful performance last year, a new-look Karachi Kings side slumped to yet another defeat in the opening match of their PSL 2024 campaign.

Going up against Multan Sultans, the Kings batters fell 55 runs short of their 186-run target at the Multan Cricket Stadium. Shan Masood and Co. will now go up against Peshawar Zalmi on February 21. Their much-awaited match-up will be staged at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
