In a significant development, the Pakistan Cricket Board has terminated Haris Rauf's central contract with immediate effect. As per the official media release, Rauf has been penalised following his refusal to join Pakistan's Test squad for the recently concluded series against Australia Down Under.

Notably, Rauf refused to travel with the national Test squad for the much-anticipated series against Australia. Following the incident, the PCB formed a committee to investigate the matter in order to determine the real reason for his action.

As soon as the committee submitted its report, the apex body terminated Rauf’s central contract from December 1, 2023. Furthermore, he won’t be granted NOC to participate in global T20 leagues till June 30, 2024.

The PCB management also provided Rauf with an opportunity to give an explanation, which was eventually found unsatisfactory. As per PCB’s policy, his refusal to join the Test squad without a solid reason is a blatant violation of the central contract, which is why Rauf has been subjected to such a harsh disciplinary action.

Rauf, who has been a regular in Pakistan’s limited overs setup, has played a solitary Test for his side. His only Test appearance came against England in the 2022 home series, where he could bowl only 13 overs before walking off the field owing to an injury.
