Australian captain and spearhead Pat Cummins was on Tuesday (January 16) named International Cricket Council's (ICC) Men's Player Of the Month for December 2023. One of the giants of world cricket, Cummins continued his rich vein of form and excellent captaincy for Australia last month.

After waving the Australian flag high with a victory in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023 in late November, Cummins returned to the field with a bang following a brief break via the Test series at home against Pakistan.

The tall right-arm seamer was in his true element and posed a near-unplayable threat with the ball to the opposition. Cummins bagged three consecutive five-wicket hauls during the Benaud-Qadir Trophy and finished the series with 19 scalps over six innings at a jaw-dropping 12 runs apiece.

For his sheer leadership acumen and bowling quality on display, Cummins emerged as the stand-out performer of the month and rightfully bagged the prestigious ICC Men's Player award for December 2023.

Cummins delivered a lot of investment overs through his marathon 20-over burst in the first-innings of the Perth Test before fetching the just rewards afterwards, including in the Boxing Day at MCG and the New Year's Test at SCG.

The 30-year-old earned the 'Player of the Match' at the iconic MCG with figures of 5/48 and 5/49 and then came up with a first-innings burst of 5/61 in the third Test of the series.

Deepti recieves Women's Player Of December

Meanwhile, the ICC also handed Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma the women's 'Player of the Month' award for her spectacular showings against visitors England and Australia. While she was at her disciplined and incisive best with the ball even in the white-ball leg of the schedule, Deepti's best came out in the two Tests played.

The cricketer struck 165 runs and bagged 11 wickets at an average of just 10.81 in India's famous wins against the two fancied oppositions. The experienced player made a vital 67 at No.7 during a critical phase versus the English and came up spells of 5 for 7 and 4 for 32 in a historic triumph. She then matched her feat with another terrific allround display versus the Aussies.
