#OTD in 2021: Southern Brave and Oval Invincibles were crowned champions of the inaugural season of The Hundred

On this day, a year ago, Southern Brave and Oval Invincibles lifted the title of the inaugural edition of the Men's Hundred and Women's Hundred competition respectively at Lord's.

Invited to bat first against Birmingham Phoenix, Brave lost their experienced batters Quinton de Kock and James Vince early. The quickfire 50-run stand between Paul Stirling and Alex Davies was good support to the team. Stirling scored a whirlwind 61 off 36 balls, comprising two fours and six maximums. 

Ross Whiteley slammed an unbeaten 44 off 19 to power Brave to a strong total of 168. 

In response to a tough chase, Phoenix lost their openers early. However, the knocks from Moeen Ali (36) and Liam Livingstone (46) surely helped the team to remain in the hunt. 

Afterwards, none of the batters could not provide flourish in the final few overs, as they ended on 136/5. Brave won the game by 32 runs and lifted the Men's title. 

Marizanne Kapp help Oval Invincibles secure a dominating victory

In the finals of the Women's Hundred 2021, Invincibles got off to an average start with Dane Van Niekerk and Fran Wilson stitching a run-a-ball stand of 60. 

However, the knocks from Marizanne Kapp (26 off 14) and Alice Capsey (18 off 12) in the death overs aid Invincibles to a competitive score of 121. 

Chasing a stiff total, Brave lost their experienced opener Danielle Wyatt and Gaby Lewis in the first over to Kapp. Then, Fi Morris (23) and Stafanie Taylor (18) were the only key contributors for Invincibles to get bundled out for 73. 

Kapp finished with figures of 4/9 to propel Brave to an emphatic victory of 48 runs.
