On Thursday, Cricket Australia (CA) named a strong Australian Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against New Zealand, which will commence from February 29. CA have continued the trend of naming their most potent squad, with Pat Cummins leading the defending World Test Champions, who will tour New Zealand soon.

The bowling consists of veterans like Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Scott Boland with the selectors also giving Michael Neser an opportunity.

Nathan Lyon remains the lone spinner in the squad, with Travis Head, Cameron Green, and Mitchell Marsh also included as all-rounders. Matthew Renshaw and Usman Khawaja have been picked up as the openers.

Batting will, as always, depend on Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne. At the same time, Alex Carey takes on the role of wicketkeeper-batter.

Chief Selector George Bailey expected the New Zealand tour to be challenging and thus opted to name a strong side.

"As we know every Test match provides vital opportunities to obtain valuable WTC points and we expect this tour will be a tough challenge against a very strong side who have been so consistent at home for a long period of time,” Bailey said.

The Test series will take place post the conclusion of the three-T20Is series, which starts on February 21. The Tests will be played in Wellington and Christchurch, respectively.
