Out of favour India opener Prithvi Shaw, whose impressive County stint with Northamptonshire came to an abrupt end following an injury, will not need surgery despite scans revealing a Grade 2 Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) damage.

According to News18, Shaw currently in the United Kingdom is receiving treatment, and is expected to return on the field soon as the detail comes from a source close to the Delhi Capitals (DC) player.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is keeping a close eye on Shaw's treatment and progress, he was expected to head straight to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) or Mumbai post his injury but will continue to stay in the UK for the time being.

Here's what the Source said

"The result of the scans has revealed that it’s a Grade 2 PCL injury. Grade 2 is not that encouraging but still better than Grade 3. Things were initially not looking good for Prithvi but Grade 2 injury and no need of surgery means he should be back on the field soon.

Initially, we thought he could return to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) or home in Mumbai but he will be there in UK for some time at least,”

Prior to the knee injury, Shaw created history in England's One-Day Cup slamming a record-breaking 244 against Somerset. In just four matches, the former India Under-19 World Cup-winning captain amassed 429 runs.

The Mumbai batter is expected to miss upcoming domestic tournaments like Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
