Nepal qualified for the next edition of the men's ICC T20 World Cup in the Caribbean & USA on Friday (November 3) with a spectacular victory over associate rivals UAE in the men's Asian regional finals organised for the biannual event in Kathmandu.

The spirited Nepalese side re-entered cricket's biggest spectacle for the shortest format after missing out on the previous three editions of the tournament in 2016, 2021 and 2022. The rising subcontinental force last turned out at a men's T20 World Cup back at the 2014 edition in Bangladesh.

Nepal had famously defeated Hong Kong and the then associates Afghanistan in the preliminary stage in Dhaka but a defeat to Bangladesh had put paid to their hopes of qualifying to the Super 10s stage in a cut-throat competition.

Growing in experience and skill since then, Nepal now return to the prestigious tournament as an even more promising unit, capable of upsetting major oppositions at the world stage. Rohit Paudel's men will be gearing up for the challenge to take on cricket's mighty opposition when they travel to the West Indies & USA in June 2024.

Nepal Beat UAE To Secure T20 World Cup Spot

After storming past the group stage of the ICC Men's T20I World Cup Asian Finals with wins over Malaysia and Singapore, Nepal came up with their most comprehensive display of the tournament in the knock-outs clash with longstanding arch-rivals UAE.

The Men from Emirates, who had long been the thorn in the flesh for Nepalese, couldn't match up to their allround skill and domination in the must-win battle at the famous Mulpani Cricket Ground in Kathmandu.

Spinners ruled the roost for Nepal with the duo of Sandeep Lamichhane (2/14) and Kusal Malla (3/11) sharing five wickets between them for just 25 runs off the seven overs they bowled, offering UAE batters zero respite and breathing space to restrict them to a paltry 134/9.

Later, wicketkeeper-batter Aasif Sheikh with his measured knock of 64 and skipper Paudel's blistering 34 not out off 20 deliveries propelled Nepal through with eight wickets intact.

Nepal joined Oman, who earlier upstaged Bahrain, to cement a spot at the men's T20 World Cup. Both the regional associates make their return to the biannual ICC tournament, set to benefit from the opportunity to ply their trade at the biggest stage while fetching a major financial boost through funding and sponsorships.
