Mumbai Indians (MI) could find uncapped South African pacer Duan Jansen surplus to their needs and release the bowler back into the auction pool ahead of the much-anticipated bidding war for IPL 2024 in December.

The five-time champions are reportedly set to release younger Jansen after just one season since roping him into their long-drawn set-up. MI had picked Duan, who is the twin brother of Proteas international allrounder Marco Jansen, had been picked by MI for a base sum of INR 20 lakhs at the mini-auction held last year for the IPL 2023.

Journalist Mohsin Kamal reported the youngster's imminent departure from the MI camp ahead of the retention-release phase prior to the IPL 2024 auction to be held in Dubai on December 19. Notably, the 23-year-old's only outing of the campaign for MI could prove to be his last after the team management decided not to retain his services.

Duan Jansen To Be Released By Mumbai Indians

Making his IPL debut in Match 22 of the season against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Duan was smashed for horrific figures of 1 for 53 off his 4 overs. The promising left-arm pacer was hit for three fours and four sixes.

Despite MI's power-packed batting unit managing to recover ground with a successful chase of 186 versus the two-time champions, the Rohit Sharma-led side decided not to retain Duan in their playing XI and subsequently benched him for the rest of the campaign.

MI was clearly unconvinced with his readiness to take the load of being an IPL level pick and decided to give him more time and space to develop his skill and range. The bowler looked woefully underprepared to counter KKR's assault against him as they targeted him as the weaker suit in the MI line-up.
