Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj stirred speculation with a cryptic Instagram story on Thursday, December 21, just ahead of the two-match Test series, leaving fans puzzled about its meaning.

Various speculations emerged regarding Siraj's post, with one suggesting a possible injury during the practice session, raising doubts about his participation in the upcoming Test series. 

Other fan theories linked Siraj's Instagram story to the ongoing Mumbai Indians captaincy snub of Rohit Sharma. Some even speculated about his potential departure from the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Siraj's last appearance was in the third T20I against South Africa, which concluded with the series levelled at 1-1 and one game tied.

India are gearing up for a two-match Test series against South Africa, commencing on December 26. The team will witness the return of senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah, marking their comeback since the World Cup 2023 Final.

However, India will miss the services of Mohammed Shami, who was ruled out of the bilateral series due to an ankle injury, as deemed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India's medical team. Shami's availability depended on his fitness, and with his absence, Siraj shoulders added responsibility in the pace attack led by Jasprit Bumrah.

The question remains about Shami's replacement in the playing XI, with Prasidh Krishna, who showcased a five-wicket haul in the practice game against South Africa A, emerging as the frontrunner. Mukesh Kumar is also in contention, impressing during the West Indies Test series.

The members of the Indian Test squad are currently engaged in a three-day intra-squad match that commenced on December 20. As the team prepares for the upcoming Test series, Siraj's cryptic Instagram post has added an element of intrigue and speculation among cricket fans.
