Maxwell Or Green; Who Will Be Dropped For Will Jacks In MI vs RCB?

This evening, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will cross swords against Mumbai Indians in match 25 of the ongoing Indian Premier League season.

Led by Faf du Plessis, RCB have had a horrendous IPL 2024 campaign, placed ninth in the standings with four defeats in five outings.

They kickstarted their journey with a crushing defeat against Chennai Super Kings before Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik's batting heroics ensured their clinical win versus Punjab Kings.

However, persistent failures from the batters apart from Kohli led them to heavy drubbings on next three subsequent occasions.

The Australian duo of Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green have let RCB down with their prolonged rough patch in the competition. While Maxwell has managed only 32 runs in five innings, Green has failed to put up an impact with both bat and ball.

So, moving on to this clash, RCB might consider bringing Will Jacks into the squad, swapping him with either Maxwell or Green.

Why should Will Jacks play?

Regarded as one of the fiercest strikers of the ball, Will Jacks can offer RCB with a destructive batting option at the top order.

Given that Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli will open the batting, RCB need someone to bat at number three and considering Green and Rajat Patidar's poor recent form, Jacks seems to be the best candidate for the role right now.

However, RCB could still persist with Maxwell, considering his past exploits and reputation. If Jacks bats at three, this will allow RCB to use Maxwell properly as a spin-hitter in the middle overs.

Besides batting at three, Jacks can be useful with the ball, providing the team with a solid bowling option with his right-arm off spin.

Will Jacks Stats and Records

The English top-order batter has been prolific in the shortest format, amassing 4130 T20 runs at an average of 29.71 and a blistering strike rate of 158.66. He has also scalped 49 wickets at an economy of 7.71.

In the SA20 tournament earlier this year, Jacks played a pivotal role for Pretoria Capitals, slamming 245 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 180.14.

So, given his aggressive hitting, Jacks could be RCB's go-to man in this high-voltage face-off in Wankhede's batting-friendly deck.
