Mark Wood on his comeback to international cricket after six months

After being on a sabbatical for over six months, the English seamer Mark Wood made a comeback to competitive cricket with the third T20 International of the seven-match series against Pakistan. Wood suffered an elbow injury in March while playing a Test match against West Indies. Despite being off the field for so many months, the seamer looked in complete control of his game on Friday.

It was a sensational performance by Wood as he accounted for three wickets, including Babar Azam, Haider Ali, and Haris Rauf. At the end of his four overs, he returned with figures of 4-0-25-3. With such outstanding performances, Wood is definitely making a case to be offered lucrative deals for playing in franchise cricket.

However, at the moment, the seamer is happy to play only for England. The 32-year-old said as quoted by Mirror:

"For me, England will always come first and if I can fit anything else in then great but from an injury point of view, I think it's more a case of where can I get things in and where makes sense.”

Wood wants to play the Test series against Pakistan

Further, Wood also expressed his desire to play the three-match Test series against Pakistan in December. Playing after a long time, the seamer felt tired after bowling just four overs. However, he is looking forward to bowling more in the World Cup to get back into the groove.

The 32-year-old has been a fine performer for England in the purest format of the game. In 26 Test matches, he has 82 wickets at an average of 31.91 and an economy rate of 3.32.

“If they want me [for the Tests against Pakistan], I'll be ready to go. Having that long lay-off all summer, I felt really tired after four overs. That's mental to think that after four overs I felt rank. During the World Cup, I'll get more up to speed with the games and stuff like that but during the World Cup, at some point, I'll have to practice with the red ball and try and get my workloads up a little bit to get ready for here. I want to play Test cricket."
