Indian pacer, Jaydev Unadkat is set to play for Sussex in the County Championship. The left-handed bowler will be seen playing alongside his fellow Indian and Saurashtra team-mate, Cheteshwar Pujara in what will be his first county stint.

Jaydev Unadkat set to make County debut with Sussex

Unadkat's Sussex debut is anticipated on September 3 against Durham. While he's committed to three of the four remaining matches, there's a hint of uncertainty surrounding his availability for the last match as he may don the captain's hat for Saurashtra in the Irani Cup which is scheduled for October 1.

This is what Unadkat said,

“I have been following the team's recent run of success and I had a nice conversation with Paul [Farbrace, Sussex head coach] and it looks like I can definitely add value and contribute towards the team's goals. The English County Championship has a wonderful legacy, and I was keen to grab the opportunity whenever I can and it seems to be the right time for me at this point in my career."

The southpaw further expressed his aspiration to contribute to the achievements that his close companion and fellow team member, Pujara, has been consistently securing as he represents Sussex.

“I hope to add to the laurels that my dear friend and team-mate, Cheteshwar, has been adding aplenty while representing Sussex for the last couple of seasons, and more importantly helping the team win games."

Sussex head coach, Paul Farbrace expressed his pleasure at the prospect of Unadkat joining their team during the championship period in September. He commended the seasoned bowler as both a skilled bowler and a positive addition to the squad, particularly during this thrilling phase of the season.

“We are delighted that Jaydev will join us for the September championship period, he is a quality bowler and a great guy to have join our squad at an exciting time of the season. His record is outstanding, and we will be looking for Jaydev to share his experience with our developing team,” said Farbrace.

By roping in Unadkat, Sussex has not only added a seasoned pacer to its ranks but also a leader with a proven track record in the Indian domestic circuit. With him and Pujara on board, Sussex's prospects for this season look promising.
