Irfan Pathan Trolls Pakistan After Asia Cup Exit; Rates SL Higher Than PAK

Pakistan crashed out of the Asia Cup 2023 race following their last-ball defeat to tournament co-hosts Sri Lanka in Colombo. The result ensured Sri Lanka qualified for the finals, where they will be facing Team India at the same venue on September 17.

Apparently, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan is glad that the ‘Men in Blue’ will be facing Sri Lanka at the title clash, as he believes it will serve them better in their World Cup 2023 preparations.

Irfan Pathan mocks Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023 exit

Cricketer-turned-commentator Irfan Pathan is known for poking fun at Pakistan fans. This time, the former all-rounder decided to take a sly dig at Pakistan’s team performance this Asia Cup 2023 with a subtle post on X (formerly Twitter).

Notably, both Pakistan and Sri Lanka suffered demoralising defeats at the hands of India earlier this week. While Pakistan team was given a 228-run larruping, the Sri Lankans gave Rohit Sharma’s batting troops a scare to remember before eventually perishing mere 41 runs short of their target.

Acknowledging the margin of defeats of both sides against Rohit Sharma and co., Irfan Pathan claims that facing Sri Lanka will be a more viable option for the visiting Indian team. The former cricketer implied that a final against Sri Lanka will likely not turn out to be another lop-sided affair like India’s recent clash against Pakistan. Pathan wrote:

“Playing finals against Sri Lanka will be better for team India as it won’t be a one sided affair.”

The Sri Lankan team won the 2022 edition of the Asia Cup, albeit in the game’s T20 format. Meanwhile, the Indian team, also under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, won the previous ODI Asia Cup back in 2018, defeating Bangladesh in a last-over thrilling finale.
