Cricket Australia (CA) on Tuesday (March 26) reaffirmed its desire to host India and Pakistan in a bilateral series if the two countries are willing to revive their cricketing relationship beyond the multi-team ICC and ACC events.

The governing body said it would love to provide neutral ground to Pakistan's 'away' series against India if the BCCI and Indian government relaxed their stance while still not travelling across the border.

Currently, BCCI follows the Indian government's policy decision not to play Pakistan in bilateral assignments due to the ravaged geo-political scene between the two nations and only contest matches arranged during the major ICC events, including the World Cup, and also the Asia Cup.

The talks of Australia being willing to provide neutral ground to an India versus Pakistan series resurfaced on Tuesday when CA confirmed the return of both the men's teams for the 2024-25 summer Down Under. While Pakistan play Australia in three ODIs and three T20Is at the start of November, only four days later the hosts enter another blockbuster clash with India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, featuring 5 Tests.

CA Willing To Host India-Pakistan Bilateral Series

CA officials were mighty pleased and excited seeing MCG host a bumper crowd and an incredible television and streaming audience globally witnessing the India-Pakistan contest for the T20 World Cup 2022 contest and have ever since forged a dream to host the two nations as one of the marquee features of the season.

"I think anyone that was here for the India-Pakistan game at the MCG, it will go down as one of the most memorable occasions, not just sporting occasions, that I've ever been to. So people want to see that contest. We would love to host that if the opportunity arose. If we can play a role, we'd love to play a role," CA Chief Nick Hockley was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

"We're so excited to host Pakistan. We're so excited to host India. If we can help, that's great. But I think in many ways, that's a bilateral series. It's really for others to make that happen."

Notably, India and Pakistan last played a bilateral series back in December 2012 when Pakistan travelled to India for 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is. The two nations' last Test match outing goes back even further to the 2007 Bangalore Test match, which concluded a three-match series won by the hosts.
