IND vs WI | Jason Holder points out what’s going wrong with West Indies

Star all rounder of the West Indies cricket team - Jason Holder has pinpointed what is going wrong with West Indies in the ODI format. The visitors lost by a big margin in the first ODI of the series and more importantly their batting order tanked in what did not look like a very threatening pitch.

The former Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder stated that the frontline batsmen have to put more prize on their wicket and not throw away the starts they get in the game.

“We just got to put a bigger prize on our wicket, too many soft dismissals in the innings today,” Holder said.

The right-hander, who top scored for Windies with 57 further stated that the visitors have time to regroup and come back stronger.

“We got a couple of days off and come back stronger,” Holder told in his post match comments.

PSL 2022 | Spirited Shadab Khan dismantles Babar Azam's Karachi Kings

Karachi Kings once again imploded in their batting department to lose their fifth match in a row on Sunday, 6 February. The Babar Azam-led team has had a horror run in the tournament so far, with nothing going their way at the moment. Things run a similar line on Sunday as Babar Azam and co failed to deliver with the bat and managed to lose 8 wickets inside the first 15 overs for just 83 runs. The pacers clean bowled two out of the top four batsmen and the rest of the work was done by the magical Shadab Khan who once again took four wickets in a game. This took his tally to 14 in this season’s Pakistan Super League. He is on a rampage at the moment, picking up 5, 4, 4 back on the trot. A late attack by Mohammad Nabi lessened the humiliation but Karachi still lost the game by 42 runs while chasing 178. Earlier in the day Islamabad United went around their usual ways, hacking everything in sight. Inside the powerplay, Islamabad have been a force to reckon with, especially due to the exceptional ball hitting ability of Paul Sterling and Alex Hales. Both men took on pace bowling in the powerplay overs and smashed Usman Shinwari and Chris Jordan all around the park. Poor lines from the Karachi bowlers did not help either as the duo stayed true to their record making it yet another successful outing in the powerplay for Islamabad. The breakthrough came in the 8th over, as Hales did not get enough bat on the long hop and deposited it straight to mid wicket in the hands of Lewis Gregory. Sterling soon followed suit against another long hop, this time from Mohammad Nabi, which slightly kept low to crash into his stumps. Things were brought in control once again by Colin Munro and Shadab Khan who put on a partnership of 55 off 37 balls in the middle overs. However, it was captain Babar Azam who took the charge and dismissed both of them with two stunning catches to turn the tide of the game once again. Karachi had the game in their hand when they dismissed Munro, but some late attack in the final two overs once again shifted the momentum towards Islamabad as they put up 177/6 in their 20 overs.

IND vs WI | 1st ODI: Clinical India register comprehensive win to take 1-0 lead

India registered a comfortable 6-wicket win in the first ODI of the series against West Indies in Ahmedabad after chasing down a target of 177 runs in 28 overs. The hosts were off to a brilliant start with captain Rohit Sharma and his opening partner Ishan Kishan putting up 84 runs on the board before the skipper was out for 60 off 51 after being trapped in front by Alzarri Joseph. Rohit's wicket was followed by a few more dismissals with the likes of Kohli, Ishan and Rishabh Pant all back in the hut leaving India in a spot of bother at 116/4. But debutant Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav came in for the home side's rescue as they built an unbeaten stand of 62 runs for the fifth wicket to see India home. While Hooda remained unbeaten at 26 off 32, SKY on the other side, remained not out for a 36-ball 34. Joseph scalped a couple of wickets for 45 runs in 7 overs and Akeal Hosein had a scalp to his name for 46 runs in 9 overs. Earlier, in the day, Sharma invited West Indies to bat first after winning the toss and the visitors had dismal start to the proceedings as Indian bowling unit and especially Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar picked wickets at regular intervals. The Caribbean side was at one stage reduced to 79/7 before Jason Holder and Fabian Allen provided the resistance. They put up 78 runs for the 8th wicket. Holder notched up a fifty while Allen scored 29 off 43 but their efforts went in vain as West Indies were eventually bowled out for 176 in the 44th over. Chahal bagged a four-wicket haul for India at the cost of 49 runs in 9.5 overs. The two sides will now meet each other on Wednesday at the same venue.

Women’s Ashes | Australia win ODI series with Ellyse Perry masterclass

Australia Women took an unassailable lead in the multi-format series after winning the 2nd ODI of the Ashes series. While thoroughly not dominating in nature, Australia did enough to make them comfortable with strong phases of play throughout the game. Ellyse Perry was star of the show with three wickets giving away just 12 runs and scoring a crucial 40 runs to win the game. The game ended her poor patch with both bat and ball in the shortest format of the game after the star all rounder was kept fairly quiet in the T20I series. After choosing to bowl first, Meg Lanning’s women rewarded their captain’s call with quick four wickets in the first 20 overs. If it were not for Sophie Ecclestone’s 32 runs, England would have been in a much worse position. They managed to put up 129 runs with Ecclestone’s and Amy Jones’ help but could not make enough of their batting line up. Tahlia McGrath bowled exceptionally well alongside Perry and scalped three wickets for just 4 runs in her 3.2 overs. Coming into bat, it was not easy going for Australia as they lost their first two wickets under 20 runs. Alyssa Healy held on from one end for a while but was dismissed in the 15th over of the game with the score reading 49 runs. However, useful contributions from Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner made sure that Australia did not collapse and they won the game by 5 wickets and just a little less than 15 overs remaining.
