Rohit Sharma drove India to victory in the second T20I against Australia. The win at Nagpur also brought the three-match series to levelling terms, with the decider to be played in Hyderabad.

Sharma clubbed 46 unbeaten runs off just 20 deliveries in an eight-over contest, and added several new T20I batting records to his name.

Rohit Sharma surpasses Aaron Finch, Virat Kohli and Martin Guptill in T20Is

The Indian skipper charted four sixes in his short-yet-impactful innings against Pat Cummins and co. He also struck four boundaries in the process and took India past the finishing line in the eight-over shootout.

His boundary-laden knock has now taken him past 500 boundaries in T20I cricket, making him the first international batter to do. The next best on the list is New Zealand opener Martin Guptill with 478 boundaries to his name. Ireland’s Paul Stirling (451), India’s Virat Kohli (425) and Australian captain Aaron Finch (412) are next on the elite charts.

Sharma’s four sixes from the high-scoring bout also took him past Finch in terms of most sixes hit by a T20I captain in a calendar year. With 26 sixes to his name this year already, he jumped past the Australian opener who smacked 25 maximums as skipper back in 2018.

Moreover, Sharma also went past his long-time teammate Kohli in terms of top-scoring for his side on most occasions. His 46-run unbeaten knock marked the 34th time he top-scored for India, taking him past the former Indian captain who has 33 such scores to his name.

Guptill is third on the list who top-scored for the Black Caps 29 times in his T20I career.
