  • If I Had About 20 Minutes With Him Sunil Gavaskar Positive About Helping Virat Kohli

‘If I had about 20 minutes with him,’ Sunil Gavaskar positive about helping Virat Kohli

Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar believes he can help Virat Kohli overcome his lean patch.

The just-concluded India tour of England saw Kohli failing in all three formats of the game. Playing the fifth rescheduled Test match, the former Indian skipper returned with scores of 11 and 20 runs.

He continued his poor run in the limited-overs leg, registering just 45 runs in four outings.

Kohli's prolonged lean patch has become a concern for the Indian think tank. A few former players have also started questioning the long rope given to the batting maestro to return to his best.

Gavaskar eager to help Kohli

Amidst all the criticism, Gavaskar has come up with some advice. The veteran believes that a 20-minute chat between him and Kohli can give the top-order batter a way to get back to the form.

"If I had about 20 minutes with him, I would be able to tell him the things he might have to do. It might help him; I am not saying it will help him, but it could, particularly with regards to that off-stump line. Having been an opening batter, having been troubled by that line, there are certain things that you try and do," Gavaskar said, as quoted by India Today.

Elaborating on his opinion further, the former India skipper said that Kohli is just one mistake away from ending his lean patch. The 73-year-old believes that the Delhi-born is anxious about playing every ball, which is natural for an out-of-form batter.

"It goes back to the fact that his first mistake turns out to be his last. Just because he is not amongst the runs, there is this anxiety to play at every delivery because that is what batters feel; they have got to score," Gavaskar said.

"You look to play at deliveries that you otherwise won't. But he has gotten out to good deliveries as well on this particular tour," the 73-year-old concluded.
